Peak and Moor

Peak and Moor is an unofficial website offering an alternative to the official tourist and national park websites. My aim is to provide a wide range of information for those who enjoy the countryside for leisure and pleasure, it is intended to be as much for the serious outdoors enthusiast as for families looking for a day out

Hot Spots - Tourist areas tend to have hot spots, generally because they have some intrinsic attraction and have developed the infrastructure and services for visitors. These are popular for a reason, there will be brief details and links to appropriate websites for more detailed information. These are generally ideal for those with children or mobility problems as well as those just looking for some gentle sight seeing

Hidden Gems - Away from the main tourist "honey pots" there are the not so well known or just not so easy to get to places that are worth a visit. These may not be suitable for everyone but take a look, you may find something special. Many of these are personal favourites, all will have links to other websites giving more detail.

Walking - This section will give details of walking festivals, waymarked routes, long distance footpaths etc. for the serious and leisure walkers. There are many good websites providing walking routes I have no intention of competing with them - in fact I will recommend some and walks listed will have links to sites giving more detail.

Cycling - This section will provide info on cycling tracks and trails for varying standards from the serious cyclist or extreme mtb rider to family trails, including links to sites providing routes and general information.

Other Sport and Leisure pursuits - A catch all which may range from Art classes and Bird Watching to Photography and Sailing. I will include details of clubs, businesses and websites that provide information, or even activity experiences or training.

Nature Reserves - I have included detail of National and Local Nature Reserves and details of organisations managing these sites. I have tried to list only those sites that are accessible by the public and will include links to the relevant websites.

Camping and Caravan Sites - a listing of camping and caravan sites, with contact details - there are also links to websites that offer a search facility to help you locate the site for you.

Tourist Info - Contact details of the TIC's and Tourist Websites in and around the Peak District

Selected Website Links - These sites have generally been included for their practical information or as reference sites offering more detailed information than I have published. These may include sites that provide information on the History or Geology of the area, general information sites or other resources to help you get the most from the area.

About Me

I have lived on the edge of the Peak District all my life (so over half a century!) It has been my playground, a place to enjoy nature, a place to find peace and solitude and a place to exercise my mind and body. It has history, geography, flora and forma, rivers and dales, high peaks and rugged moors - Even on a bank holiday in summer there are quiet roads and places to enjoy (I'm not giving all the secrets away so I can keep a few for myself).

I am a leisure walker and cyclist , an IT professional and have published a walking website www.rambleon.org.uk for many years I also set up Accessible Countryside for Everyone to promote accessibility to the countryside for families (with buggies and pushchairs) and those with mobility impairment (wheelchair and mobility scooter users). This site is another labour of love - I hope you find it useful. If you are in need of a website I provide website design and marketing services as exnisus web design
